Putting people over politics in St. Louis County.

Why I'm Running...

As a candidate for St. Louis County Council working to represent West St. Louis County in the 7th Council District, I’m running for office so that I can fight for my family- and your family, too- in efforts to make St. Louis County more safe, secure, healthy, just, and prosperous.

As a fifth-generation Missouri native, I’ve seen my hometown of St. Charles grow from a rural bedroom community into a sprawling suburban region. I want to see our middle class prosper and grow while we work to maintain and elevate tight-knit communities rooted in history and tradition that also care about and support one another as part of the St. Louis region.

I believe in- and strongly support- American values like freedom, justice, and having the opportunity to achieve the American Dream as well as policies that will improve the lives of St. Louis County residents. If elected, I will commit to focusing on issues such as Public Safety, Infrastructure and Transportation, Economic Development, Workforce Development, Parks and Recreation, Fiscal Responsibility, Affordability, and most importantly, I will work to improve the lives of over one million St. Louis County residents while recognizing our role as the economic generator and transportation hub for the region.

I believe that our public servants should strive to honor Missouri’s State Motto: Salus Populi Suprema Lex Esto- “Let the Welfare of the People be the Supreme Law,” and I will relentlessly advocate for policies and initiatives that benefit the residents in the 7th Council District, St. Louis County, and the St. Louis region.

PUBLIC SAFETY

John Kiehne will work to make our communities safe and secure must be a priority issue for the St. Louis County Government. St. Louis County must make sure that law enforcement and First Responders have the resources necessary to effectively serve the residents, workers, and vistors in our communities.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The St. Louis region is a transportation hub that features not only the roads and bridges that we use everyday, but also rail, waterway, and air traffic as well. We have an obligation to make travel safe for our families, tourists, and the businesses who help make this region vibrant, accessible, and prosperous.

AFFORDABILITY

Hard-working St. Louis County residents are an integral part of the economic generator for the St. Louis region and should have the opportunity to thrive and prosper. People living in St. Louis County should have the opportunity to work, live, and play without struggling to afford housing, utilities, transportation, or food.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

St. Louis County government has a billion dollar budget that serves the needs of over one million residents as well as thousands of businesses and millions of people who work, travel, and play in this region. Taxpayers' dollars must be spent responsibly, efficiently, and in order to best serve the needs of County residents.

ECONOMIC GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

John Kiehne will work to help encourage growth in West St. Louis County and the St. Louis region while also recognizing that development must also respect the history and values of the residents in our communities. West St. Louis County is a great place to live, work, and play, and we'd like to keep it that way!

PARKS AND RECREATION

West St. Louis County is a prime example of how maintaining and improving our public outdoor spaces and recreational facilities enhances the lifestyle of not only residents but visitors and businesses as well. Preserving and protecting our natural spaces must continue to be a priority for St. Louis County.

Please join John Kiehne and #KiehneAction on Saturday, June 20 to kick off our weekend canvasses and engage with District 7 voters. We’ll be staging from Wildwood, MO and sending teams throughout our West County District.

There’s a Lot Going On in St. Louis County!

It was fantastic to see all the folks out for #NoKings protests on Saturday!!! I took the girls to a local Easter Egg hunt and unfortunately ended up missing the protest, but we still have a lot of work to do for the next 218 days in order to win this race and elect as many Democrats in the western suburbs as possible along the way. We’re in this to...

Our Kickoff Rocked, I Filed, Now It’s GO TIME!!! [KiehneAction]

First of all, I want to thank the folks who attended our Kickoff Event this last Thursday supporting this campaign’s efforts to defeat Republican incumbent Councilman Mark Harder and flip the 7th Council District blue. I also appreciate those folks who had other commitments or were unable to attend who checked in to voice their support for this campaign. We had a great, fired up crowd, and we were really...

Today I Filed to Run, Now We Run to Win!!! [KiehneAction]

This morning I officially filed to run for St. Louis County Council in the 7th District opposing Republican incumbent Councilman Mark Harder. Councilman Harder has been a member of the St. Louis County Council for 11 years, and during his tenure I’ve seen few- if any- proposed or promoted solutions regarding how St. Louis County’s government can be run more efficiently, effectively, or within its budget. It’s long past time...

It’s long past time for a change out here in West St. Louis County...

John Kiehne will fight for the people instead of playing politics on our dime.

I’m John Kiehne, and I’m running for the St. Louis County Council’s 7th District seat opposing Councilman Mark Harder. I’m a Eureka resident, but I was born and bred in St. Charles, and I’ve witnessed firsthand how development has changed the character of a small bedroom community like St. Charles into a sprawling metroplex, and now West St. Louis County residents are experiencing the same kinds of growing pains as well.

Middle class families like ours are living on a budget while seeing the cost of utilities, housing, insurance, food, and taxes, continue to rise. Meanwhile, our county government- which year after year faces critical budget challenges- seems to have a habit of handing out tax incentives with little restraint, treating our reserves like a get of jail free card, and putting the burden of paying the county’s bills on residents while too often giving developers and corporations a free or reduced ride.

If you think that the current 7th District Council member isn’t listening, then let me be your sounding board. If you want to see our communities retain their character and identity while thoughtfully managing growth, then please join us. If you want safe streets, good schools, enriching parks and attractions, fair taxation, thriving businesses, and the opportunity for your family to prosper, then join us.
